The calvus caves are specifically designed for calvus cichlids, Altolamprologus calvus. During breeding, the female utilizes these caves by depositing eggs in a hollow where the male cannot reach. They are available in 2 different sizes to accommodate both small and larger fish. They have a beautiful stone-like structure, but the interior is smooth to prevent the fish from injuring themselves. Because we make everything by hand, each calvus stone caves are unique.

Aquarium

The calvus caves are handcrafted from white ceramic in our studio in the Netherlands. With their lifelike appearance, they fit perfectly in any aquarium and can be combined with real wood. We always recommend creating enough hiding spots in the aquarium so that the animals feel comfortable.

Additionally, you can also cover the calvus caves with various types of plants and mosses such as java moss or anubias. Use aquarium glue or fishing line to attach the plant to the caves for the first few weeks. After this, the plant will grow attached to the ornament. The calvus caves will also act as a biological filter in the aquarium as the structure of the ceramic is porous. Numerous bacteria nest in the micro-cavities and through biological breakdown remove harmful substances from the aquarium water. All in all, a great product!

Our ceramics are 100% safe for humans, animals, and the environment. Because the color is baked into the clay, the color will never fade. This also makes them easy to clean. Cleaning can easily be done with a soft sponge and warm water. Furthermore, the ceramic decorations have an extremely long lifespan. In short, a sustainable product in every aspect!
